Hebrides Ensemble has built a reputation as Scotland's foremost chamber group, touring frequently throughout Scotland, appearing at international music festivals and broadcasting regularly on BBC Radio 3. Its concerts are acclaimed for their imaginative and innovative programming and for the outstanding quality of performance. For its work in 2005 Hebrides Ensemble was nominated for a Royal Philharmonic Society award.

The Ensemble has commissioned and premiered new works by more than fifty composers including Gordon Mcpherson, Stuart MacRae, Haflidi Hallgrimsson and Sally Beamish and performs a celebrated series of concerts each year at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.

Recent projects include prestigious Scottish Arts Council Tune Up tours and collaborations with Scottish Dance Theatre and Opera Circus. Festival appearances include a residency at the St. Magnus Festival, Orkney, performances at the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Edinburgh International Festivals, and the Ensemble's first appearance at Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in November 2007.

In May 2008, Hebrides Ensemble will make its Wigmore Hall debut, followed by a residency at the St Magnus Festival, Orkney in June 2008 and a Scottish tour of Peter Maxwell Davies' opera "The Martyrdom of St Magnus". Further plans include a Scottish tour with soprano Jane Irwin in Autumn 2008, a Scottish / Austrian tour in Spring 2009, and the Ensemble's City of London Festival debut in 2009.

The Ensemble has recently recorded Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time for Linn Records, for release in May 2008. The Hebrides commission "Waltzer" by Gordon McPherson will be released on Natural Studio Records in March 2008.

Hebrides Ensemble's recent CD of music by Lyell Cresswell for NMC has received the highest critical acclaim across the globe. A further CD featuring music by John Bevan Baker was released by Linn Records in September 2006.
