Scottish Flute Trio

The Scottish Flute Trio, Laura Bailie, Janet Larsson and Ruth Morley, has been commissioning new work since 1996. They have performed at major festivals including the Edinburgh International Festival and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, they have broadcast live for Radio 3 and Radio Scotland as well as playing concerts all over the country. They have worked with leading composers such as Thea Musgrave, Gordon McPherson, Edward McGuire, Javier Alvarez, Robert Dick, Peter McGarr and Kenneth Dempster
RUTH MORLEY trained at The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with David Nicholson, and at The Royal Northern College of Music with Peter Lloyd. She has won prizes from the Hattori Foundation, Soroptamist International, Wingate Scholarships and has broadcast for Radio 3, Radio Scotland and been a featured artist on Classic FM. She has worked with many chamber groups including The Edinburgh Quartet, The Hebrides Ensemble, and from 2002 to 2006 she worked extensively with the Paragon Ensemble. She has performed all over the UK, France and Germany including at The Edinburgh International Festival, Musica Nova, Edinburgh Harp Festival, St Magnus Festival, Le Weekend, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Ken, Cubed at The Traverse as well as concerts in Warsaw and Leipzig. Ruth teaches at the RSAMD and is director of the Scottish International Flute Summer School.
JANET LARSSON studied at Chethams School of Music, Kings College, London and The Royal Academy of Music. Her flute tutors were Phillipa Davies and Sebastian Bell. In London she was co-principal flute of Sinfonia 21, and freelanced work included BBC Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Royal Ballet and English Touring Opera. Now living in Glasgow she works regularly with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra.
LAURA BAILIE studied flute with David Nicholson at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She continued her studies with Harrie Starreveld at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam and then, having been awarded a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarship, with Kate Lukas and Jacques Zoon at Indiana University in the States. As a freelance orchestral player she has worked with many orchestras, including the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Halle Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and the Paragon Ensemble.
